A Contest for my Canadian Friends! (a.k.a. Hockey Trivia!)

So tonight I found myself watching the NHL Network and what should I see? It was the New York Rangers facing off against the Toronto Maple Leafs. I’m always up for watching a hockey game, even if my Devils aren’t involved, especially if there’s someone I can root against, like the Rangers (who lost in a shootout). I didn’t watch the whole game, only the last half or so, but something said in the third period made my head explode.

The announcers were talking about Scott Gomez, who spent his first seven NHL seasons in New Jersey when one of them said something to the effect of:

“You think about all the guys who played for New Jersey and went to New York. Bobby Holik. John MacLean. Bruce Driver. Driver actually did very well in New York and won a [Stanley] Cup with them in 1994.”

I couldn’t help but laugh my ass off at this statement, which is erroneous for the following reasons:

1. In 1994, when the Rangers won the Stanley Cup, Driver was a member of the New Jersey Devils.
2. Driver did indeed win a Stanley Cup, but it was in 1995, as a Devil.
3. Driver did indeed play for the Rangers, but it wasn’t until the 1995-96 season, the year after his win with New Jersey and two years after the Rangers had won.

Shameless plug: Two days ago, I posted about Bruce Driver at my other blog, NJ Devils Cards.

So anyway, the statement got me thinking. There have been quite a few players who have donned both the sweaters of the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils, but my question is:

What two players who skated for the Rangers during the 1993-94 season later played for the New Jersey Devils?

Here are a few quick rules:
1. Despite the title of this post, non-Canadians can play.
2. Only one guess per person.
3. The first person to submit the correct answer will win their choice of hockey or baseball cards.

Good luck!

Real Quick…

Yeah, I know this is a bit random, but who can tell me what’s wrong with this card? First one to answer correctly gets a prize!

EDIT: Night Owl was the first to give the correct answer. It was Hank Blalock who hit the winning home-run and NOT Teixeira, who wasn’t even on the All-Star roster in 2003. Peter of Dropped Third Strike will also win a prize for his creative answers.

And the Winner is…

10K Hits Contest!

When I reached the 10,000 hit mark, I promised you guys a little contest so here it is. Inspired by the contest Mr. Ross at Boxbusters had a couple weeks ago, I wanted to have a little guessing contest of my own. I told you it would have something to do with my hockey blog so here’s the question:

How many different New Jersey Devils (past or present) do I have at least one certified autographed card of?

For this contest, only cards which feature the player in a Devils (or Rockies) uniform count. The one who comes closest to the actual answer WITHOUT GOING OVER will win the prize lot. Here are the cards in the lot:
prizelot2005 UD MVP Alfonso Soriano jersey
2005 SP Legendary Cuts Lasting Legends Steve Carlton jersey
1999 Topps Gold Label Class 1 Black Manny Ramirez
2005 Studio Portraits Zenith? Bo Jackson 57/60
1999 Finest Split Screen Ken Griffey, Jr./Alex Rodriguez
2008 Topps Chrome Blue Refractor Daisuke Matsuzaka
1998 Pinnacle Artist’s Proof Rafael Palmeiro
1998 Donruss Elite Craftsmen Roger Clemens 1025/3500
2000 E-X E-xplosive Randy Johnson 1832/2499

The contest will end on Monday, December 22 at 2PM EST unless someone guesses the exact number before then. As an added bonus, if someone guesses the exact number, I will throw in the Orlando Cepeda bat card from this Old School Hits post. After the contest has ended, I will reveal the complete list of players. One more thing: one guess per person only.

Thanks for looking and good luck!
